Eagles Place Jalen Reagor on Injured Reserve
The Eagles have placed rookie wide receiver Jalen Reagor on injured reserve. Reagor needed surgery to repair a torn UCL in his thumb. He underwent successful surgery at and is expected to make a full recovery, with a 6-8 week timetable to return.
"Well, listen, with the rules the way they are now, there's so much flexibility each week," said Eagles head coach Doug Pederson. "Because we had bodies, we had players that we could activate and elevate and it's just the way the rules are this year. So there was no need to really press the issue last week."
"Obviously, we know he's going to miss some time, but yeah, there was really no reason to really push anything other than having the flexibility, I guess, with the other guys."
He's now eligible to return return in Week 7.
In two games played this season, Reagor logged five receptions for 96 yards. He was the teams first-round pick, in a very deep wide receiving draft.
Reagor just adds to the list of players that have been added to the inured reserve list. Tight end Dallas Goedert was placed on the injured list on Tuesday with Regor joining him on Wednesday.
Doug Pederson said today that Alshon was still working his way back, and that DeSean Jackson was still day-to-day with a hamstring issue.
"Alshon will get some work in a little bit this week again," Pederson stated. "We're trying to increase his workload to get him back to playing here soon. DeSean is a little more, he won't practice today, but he's more day-to-day with his injury."
With both Reagor and Goedert now out for at least three weeks, the team will look to some younger players like wide receivers John Hightower, J.J. Arcega-Whiteside, and Deontay Burnett. The team also signed tight end Hakeem Butler off the Panthers practice squad on Tuesday.
Another option the team may utilize this Sunday against the 49ers is rookie wide receiver Quez Watkins. Just activated last week from the injured reserve, he has a 21-day practice window for the Eagles to decide if they want to move him to the active roster. Watkins has great speed, (4.3, 40-yard dash) the Eagles are lacking at the position.
