Right-handed pitcher Tyller Phillips, 27, was designated for assignment by the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday, but he could face his former team at some point this season.

According to MLB Insider Robert Murray from FanSided, Phillips, a 2015 Bishop Eustace graduate, is heading to Miami in exchange for cash considerations and will join the Marlins’ big league roster.

He appeared in seven games this spring with the Phillies, with a 7.59 ERA and 1.59 WHIP in 10.2 innings pitched during Grapefruit League play.

He made his MLB debut with the Phillies last year and was a feel-good story early during the 2024 season.  He made some solid spot starts, highlighted by a complete game shutout win over the Cleveland Guardians, but for the most part struggles in that role, ending the season with a 6.87 ERA on the season.

Overall, he went 4-1 with a 6.87 ERA and 1.41 WHIP, tossing 36.2 innings in eight games with the Phillies.

He was a 16th-round pick by the Texas Rangers in the 2015 MLB Draft after a senior season where he won eight games, giving up just 10 runs, striking out 47 batters in 49 innings pitched.

He has been with the Phillies organization since 2021.
