Is New Jersey Ready to Pump its Own Gas? A New Bill is Being Discussed
We all know that New Jersey is the only state remaining where you can’t pump your own gas.
That’s right—if you pull up to a gas station, an attendant has to do it for you. However, is that about to change?
New Jersey is currently the only state prohibiting self-service gas stations, following Oregon's lift of its ban in 2023

New Jersey is the last state standing, but for how long? Does New Jersey even want to be a self-service gas state?
What the New Self-Service Gas Bill Proposes
Republican Jon M. Bramnick has reintroduced a proposal to permit self-service fueling at gas stations throughout the Garden State, essentially a pump-your-own gas bill.
The bill is called the Motorist Fueling Choice and Convenience Act, which would allow both self-service and full-service options between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. at stations that offer at least four fuel dispensers.
Why would any state want to pump its own gas? I never understood this yearning to want to get out of the car in the freezing cold, the heat, the rain, the snow, to pump your own gas. Many times, that 5-10 minutes sitting at the pump in the car with your own thoughts in one of the most relaxing times of the week, so why would any state try to take that away?
I went to college in West Virginia and had to pump my own gas, and hated it every single time.
I understand sometimes people are in a rush and don't want to wait, so I would be for offering some self-service pumps, but if I have a choice, I'm keeping it the way it is.
Fill it with regular.
