Only Weeks Into 2026 and These Stores are Closing Across New Jersey
If you thought 2026 would be a stable year for brick-and-mortar businesses in New Jersey, you may be mistaken.
We're only about three weeks into the new year, and several large companies have already announced that they will be closing some -- or even all -- of their stores in the Garden State this year.
This is coming off of 2025, which wasn't exactly smooth sailing for big chains, either. Just ask those who used to work for Party City or Big Lots.
For many towns, these closures mean even more empty storefronts, lost jobs, and fewer shopping options.
So far, at least nine major chains have announced closures in New Jersey this year.

Their lone New Jersey location in Deptford is likely to be gone for good sometime in February.
