Eagles Cornerback Jaire Alexander Steps Away From Football
The Philadelphia Eagles took a flyer on veteran cornerback Jaire Alexander last Saturday. He did not play in Monday's win against his former team, the Green Bay Packers, but it appears he will not play moving forward.
Why Alexander Is Stepping Away
According to FOX NFL’s Jay Glazer, Alexander is stepping away from football to try and focus on getting himself right physically and mentally before deciding on his future.
What This Means for the Eagles' Secondary
The team took a flyer in hopes that Alexander could regain the form that allowed him to become a two-time Pro Bowler and one of the top young corners in the NFL, competing with Kelee Ringo and Adoree’ Jackson opposite of Quinyon Mitchell.
Another option is moving Cooper DeJean from the slot outside and using another trade pick-up, Michael Carter III, as the slot corner.
Alexander got a one-year, $4 million contract with Baltimore in the offseason, but appeared in just two games before being traded to Philadelphia.
