After showing up midway through spring training last season,  Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Jake Arrieta took the mound against the Minnesota Twins on Sunday in his 2019 Grapefruit League debut.

Arrieta pitched three innings against the Twins, striking out three of the 12 batters he faced in three perfect innings or work.

The 32-year old was plagued by a sore knee during the second half of last season, and carried a 3.96 ERA last year, his highest since 2013.  Arrieta told reporters that he pitched with a torn meniscus last June and had the injury surgically-repaired this offseason.

This will be the second year of a three-year, $75 million deal with the Phillies
