Joel Embiid Ruled Out for Sixers vs. Wizards Matchup
Joel Embiid has been listed as out for Wednesday's game against the Washington Wizards because of an illness.
Illness Sidelines Joel Embiid Against Washington
Embiid, who played in the game on Monday in Miami, was not listed on the initial injury report, but he did tell reporters that he wasn't feeling well after the game in Miami on Monday.
Rotation Changes: Andre Drummond and Adem Bona Step Up
With Embiid on the sidelines, Adem Bona and Andre Drummond will get a bulk of the center minutes against Washington.
Embiid just returned to the team after a nearly a month-long absence stemming from an oblique injury, suffered in a Feb 26 game against Miami.
The team finally was able to have a full roster with Paul George returning from a 25-game suspension, Kelly Oubre from an elbow injury, and Tyrese Maxey from a pinky injury. The hope was that this group could play the final stretch of games together in hopes of gaining some cohesion for a playoff run, but Embiid's illness has come at an unfortunate time.
Impact on the Eastern Conference Playoff Race
The one positive here is that Washington has lost nine of their last 10 and doesn't seem to have much interest in winning games at this stage of the season, instead trying to lock in a better draft position.
The Sixers are currently in the No. 7 position in the Eastern Conference playoff race, one game behind the Toronto Raptors for the No. 6 position. They are a game and a half behind the Atlanta Hawks for the No. 5 spot. They are one game ahead of Orlando for and a game and a half ahead of Miami and Charlotte in the play-in standings.
You can listen to the Sixers and Wizards tonight with tip-off at 7 p.m on 97.3 ESPN.
