Hot Dog eating champ Joey Chestnut to compete in new event vs old rival
On Tuesday people all over the country couldn't believe the news that American hero, Joey Chestnut, would not be a part of this years Nathan's Hot Dog eating contest on July 4th.
Now we know why.
I got to meet an talk to Chestnut at the Super Bowl, and we have kept in touch since. In a text message he told me "Hopefully, no bridges are burned."
Chestnut, who was essentially banned from the Nathan's event for representing vegan brand "Impossible Foods" over Nathan's, will be competing in a new event that will be streamed on Netflix live on Labor Day.
He will face off with his old rival Takeru Kobayashi for the first time since 2009. Kobayashi won the event from 2001 to 2006.
Chestnut has a record of 76 hot dogs in 10 minutes and has won the event an incredible 16 times, including the past eight - however he will not compete on July 4 this year.
