Key Predictions For The Philadelphia Phillies’ 2025 Season: Players To Watch And Team Awards
We are less than a week to Opening Day
Here are a few things to watch this season and some team awards and predictions for the 2025 season.
1. Andrew Painter
Painter will be a factor this season. He will likely enter the rotation sometime around the all-star break, and my prediction is when he does, he is going to make it very difficult for Thomson to remove him.
2. The trade deadline
This Phillies lineup has been very streaky, my guess is Dave Dombrowski will give this group to the trade deadline, and if there is a glaring issue he will shake things up. Dombrowski was quiet this offseason, but my guess is he won't hesitate to make a move if needed by July 31st if things are stale.

3. Romano and Kerkering will be All-Stars
I have always been a big fan of Romano in Toronto. He was a two-time All-Star with the Jays, and I see him representing the Phillies this season at the mid-summer classic
He has been outstanding this spring, showing plenty of life with his fastball.
Last year the Phillies had Jeff Hoffman and Strahm go to the All-Star game, I think Romano and Kerkering will be there this season.
4. Aidan Miller and/or Justin Crawford will appear this season
Both of these young players made an impression this spring, but I think we will see one or both of them at some point.
If there is an injury in the outfield Crawford could be a candidate to get the call if he shows he is ready. Miller's path is a bit more difficult, he would likely need multiple injuries to find his way up, but if Turner was out for a long period of time, the team could call on Miller and keep Sosa in his super-utility role.
Team awards:
MVP: I'm going to go with Trea Turner as the team MVP this season. I like the idea of him hitting leadoff, as he didn't with the 2019 Washington Nationals, who won a World Series. The whispers of his future at shortstop, with his new spot in the lineup, means a big year for Turner.
Cy Young: Zack Wheeler is the easy pick, but I'm going outside the box with Jesús Luzardo. He has No. 1 ace stuff and should rack up plenty of wins and he will have a ton of strikeouts. If he can remain healthy, he will shine in this rotation.
Bounce-back: Not many candidates here, not many Phillies had a "down" year in 2024, but I see Bryson Stott having a strong season.
I'll pencil Stott in for a .278, 17 home runs, and 73 RBI season.
I'm worried about: I'm not really worried about anyone in particular, but I can see the Phillies looking to upgrade centerfield at some point. Brandon Marsh hasn't shown he can hit left-handed pitching and Johan Rojas, who has been pretty good this spring, has struggled against lefties.
Surprise: Newcomer Max Kepler will be a fan favorite. He is going to surprise me, I'll mark him down for a .268, 23 home runs, and 79 RBI season.
In the end, I see the Phillies winning a lot of games because of their pitching, I'll say about 95. However, unless something changes with the lineup, like adding a right-handed power bat, I see another early playoff exit.
