Mainland Regional High School alum Chase Petty was promoted to Double-A Chattanooga earlier this week and made his debut on Saturday night for the Lookouts.

The former Mustang dazzled in his debut, getting the start, going four strong innings, and retiring 11 straight batters, before giving up his lone hit of his outing in the fourth inning. The 20-year-old threw an efficient 32 of his 43 pitches for strikes and he picked up one strikeout.

Petty was promoted to Double-A after dominating Single-A hitters to the tune of a 1.95 ERA with 61 strikeouts in 60 innings at High-A Dayton.

Petty is one of the top prospects in the Cincinnati Reds system, ranking No. 7 overall, after coming over in a trade before the 2022 season. He was sent to Cincinnati in exchange for Sonny Gray and Francis Peguero from the Minnesota Twins, who made him the 26th overall pick in the 2021 Major League Baseball draft.

While at Mainland, as a senior, he was named the New Jersey Gatorade Player of the Year, going 6–1 with a 1.00 ERA with 99 strikeouts in 48.2 innings pitched.
