Northfield, NJ, native Cole Campbell Named American East Award

Mainland Regional alum Cole Campbell has made an impact right away at the college level.

Campbell is another Cape-Atlantic League alum making noise at the next level, playing at New Jersey Institute of Technology, was named the America East Conference Rookie of the Week after hitting .714 (5-for-7) with five hits, two runs and two RBI during the week for the Highlanders.

On the season, Campbell, who missed last season with an injury is hitting .474 in 19 at bats this season for the Highlanders.

Campbell is just one of many area baseball players who have made news this season.

Rutgers has multiple CAL alums, including ACIT's Tony Santa Maria, Holy Spirit's Trevor Cohen, Cedar Creek's Christian Coppola and Jordan and Justin Sweeny from Egg Harbor Twp.

Coppola earned Big Ten Pitcher of the Week honors back in Feb, Cohen is hitting .375 in 14 games, Santa Maria is hitting .364 with six home runs and 20 RBI, Justin Sweeney recently made collegiate debut with start at St. Joe's and his brother Jordan has 27 career home runs at Rutgers.

Down at Coastal Carolina, 2023 EHT graduate Cameron Flukey has been outstanding with a 2.24 ERA and 22 strikeouts in just 12.1 innings pitched.

At Maryland, Ventnor native and 2023 Ocean City alum Duke McCarron, pitched three innings of relief and struck out a batter to pickup first collegiate save against Georgetown on Feb 27.

The Cape-Atlantic League baseball season will be starting soon, with teams heading down to Florida for some games this week.

Campbell's alma mater, Mainland should be one of the top teams in South Jersey this season.
