(973espn.com) - The upheaval at the wide receiver position will continue for the Eagles on Sunday in Cincinnati as Jordan Matthews is expected to miss the contest with a balky ankle.

The domino effect of that is that the embattled Nelson Agholor will be dressed, six days after he was a healthy scratch against Green Bay.

Matthews practiced on a limited basis on Thursday but as we reported on The Sports Bash, the third-year wideout was struggling with his explosion in and out of cuts during the individual portion of practice that was open to the media.

The loss of Matthews is significant for an offense that lacks playmakers as the Vanderbilt product has been Carson Wentz’s top target this season, amassing 57 receptions for 686 yards and three touchdowns.

Running back Ryan Mathews (knee) will also miss the contest as wellas  two of the Bengals’ top playmakers, WR AJ Green (hamstring) and RN Giovani Bernard (ACL).

Jackson, of course, made three Pro Bowls during his time with Eagles, including a career-best 1,332 receiver yards in the 2013 season.

Despite that brilliant campaign, then-Eagles coach Chip Kelly released the speedster due to some off-the-field baggage and the team hasn’t had a legitimate deep threat since.

Take the report with a grain of salt, however. Even though the Eagles have a desperate need at the position and Jackson will almost certainly reach free agency, he is now on the wrong side of 30 and Philadelphia would prefer a younger option that can grow and develop with Wentz for the long term.

The Eagles will certainly kick the tires and do their due diligence on Jackson but at this point, he would be further down their wish list.
