The Phillies are on the verge of a major acquisition.

According to Vatican sources, the team has agreed in principle to a contract with Pope Francis.

He is expected to board a flight from Rome and be in uniform on Wednesday night when the Phillies take on the Nationals at Citizen's Bank Park.

The team has even unveiled his rookie playing card:

The card is available tonight against the Nationals and will be handed out at the first and third base gates.

Of course, Pope Francis will be holding his Meeting of the Families in the United States and will be doing so in Philadelphia at the end of the month.

The Phillies are 10 losses away from 100, hopefully this will help them avoid that feat.
