Patullo Says John Metchie Adds Depth and Competition for Eagles
The recent addition to the Philadelphia Eagles’ wide receiver room on Sunday has people wondering how John Metchie III will fit into the offense.
Competition and Depth at Wide Receiver
"I think anytime you can add a player like him to the room, it creates more competition," Patuallo explained on Tuesday.
Competition is the key.
With A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith firmly at the top of the depth chart, the competition for the final spots on the roster should make the position better and deeper this season.
"Howie does a really good job of just adding good players and adding depth, giving us more options to work with throughout the season," Patullo said. You’re going to need as many bodies as you can, and I think he does a really good job of bringing guys in that can add to the team. We're excited to have him."
Slot Versatility and Offensive Options
"Just since he's been in the league, his ability to play in different positions," Patullo observed when asked what stands out about Metchie. He can move around. He's done a good job. Excited to see what he can do."
Metchie comes to the Eagles after spending his first three seasons with the Houston Texans, playing under Texans offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik during his two seasons. He missed all of his rookie season when Pep Hamilton was the offensive play-caller in 2022.
Metchie says he is just trying to bring something to the table, trying to contribute to a good team, adding, "It’s such a dynamic offense."
