NFL free agency opens on March 16, with legal tampering starting on March 14, but that doesn't mean teams are already planning their targets.

The Eagles do own three, first-round draft picks and have taken wide receivers in the first round the last two drafts with mixed reviews. With that it might be time for them to bring in a veteran wide out in free agency and focus on other areas in the draft.

One name to keep an eye on, per ESPN Jeremy Fowler, is Jaguars wide eceiver D.J. Chark,

The Philadelphia Eagles could look to Chark if they need a deep threat to complement DeVonta Smith.

Chark had a breakout 2019 season with 73 catches, 1,008 receiving yards and eight touchdowns in 15 games.  He took a step back in 2020 with 53 catches for 706 yards

He appeared poised to have a big season in 2021, before a fractured ankle ended his season after just three games, where he had seven receptions for 154 yards and two touchdowns in three games.

Our friends over Inside the Birds, Adam Caplan and Geoff Mosher discussed Chark as a possible target on a recent edition of Inside the Birds.

“I suspect they will get a veteran receiver. The  popular name for me would be D.J. Chark. Just because I know how big they were in that [2018] draft on him. He could have been an Eagle but they went for [Dallas] Goedert. And obviously you’ve got two people who know him in the building, Dave Caldwell who drafted him for the Jaguars and Gardner Minshew, who threw to him, so that’s great intel there. He’s a high character-kid talking to Jaguar people. Super high-character guy. Talented, he’s got great length, he’s tall, can run. He broke his ankle last season, OK, but he’s a guy I’ve always been high on. Good player.”

Chark would be a nice compliment to DeVonta Smith and allow Quez Watkins to operate out of the slot. The 25-year old is 6-foot-4 and 200 pounds with 4.3 speed,  giving him excellent size and speed, which would fill the need as a veteran X receiver to pair with Smith on the outside.

Other free agent wide receiver options this offseason include: Davante Adams, Chris Godwin, Odell Beckham Jr., Mike Williams, Allen Robinson, Michael Gallup, JuJu Smith-Schuster, among others in a deep class.
