The Philadelphia Phillies have added a young pitcher to their organization, dealing left-handed pitcher Tyler Gilbert, 31, to the Chicago White Sox in exchange for 23-year-old right-hander Aaron Combs.

Combs was an eighth-round pick by the White Sox in 2024 and closed out the University of Tennessee's College World Series National Championship victory this summer over Texas A&M.

Gilbert, pitched in six games for the Phillies in 2024, tossing 8.1 innings, all in relief, posting a 3.24 ERA and 1.44 WHIP.  Overall he has appeared in 34 big league games, making 13 starts.  He is 2-7 with a 4.23 ERA and 1.22 WHIP in 100 MLB innings with Philadelphia and Arizona.

The Phillies acquired Gilbert in a May 7 trade with the Reds for cash considerations.

Pitching for Single-A Kannapolis, Combs was impressive, going 2-0 in six games with 13 strikeouts in 7.2 innings and posting an ERA of 0.00 and WHIP of 1.17.

He should provide depth to the Phillies organization and gives them an exciting young bullpen arm in exchange for a pitcher they recently designated for assignment.
