The calendar has changed from August to September.  That means for the final time, Major League Baseball teams can add to their major league rosters up to the full 40-man roster.  The Phillies appear to have added several names.

Meghan Montemurro of The Athletic took note that the IronPigs transaction page had indicated three players had been called up.  Highlighting the list is catcher Deivy Grullon.  Infielder Phil Gosselin will return to the Phillies, as will pitcher Cole Irvin.  Nick Vincent, a major league veteran reliever who spent time with the San Francisco Giants earlier this season, joins the bullpen.

Additionally, Jay Bruce has been activated from the injured list and will be available to pinch hit Sunday.

The moves required three spots be opened in order to add the players to the 40-man roster.  The first two moves were pitchers: left-handed reliever Adam Morgan and right-handed starter Jerad Eickhoff.   Both pitchers were placed on the 60-day injured list and their seasons will be over.   The third spot was that Drew Anderson, on the injured list at Triple-A Lehigh Valley, was designated for assignment.

Other players could join the Phillies, but the Lehigh Valley IronPigs are wrapping up their Triple-A season and playoff-bound.   Among players widely speculated to join the Phillies: Maikel Franco has not been in the minor leagues for 10 days yet and was not eligible to return; Nick Williams was not called up either.

The Phillies face the New York Mets on Sunday Night Baseball at 7:00 p.m.
