Phillies Adding Andrew Painter to Arizona Fall League Roster
Major League Baseball announced the six rosters for the upcoming Arizona Fall League last week, which begins today. The AFL is used to showcase and give additional playing time to some of the game’s up-and-coming prospects.
The Phillies have added one more player to their list of players heading to Arizona.
According to Todd Zolecki of MLB.com, one of the Phillies' top prospects, Andrew Painter will be heading to Arizona and will face live hitters for the first time in 2024.
Painter, who missed the entire season after Tommy John surgery in July of 2023, is expected to be ready for spring training.
Painter will get work against live hitters after missing the entire 2024 season. The Phillies drafted him out of Calvary Christian High School in Florida with the No. 13 overall pick in the 2021 MLB Draft. Painter missed the entire season and will use the Fall League to make up the lost reps.
The last time we saw Painter pitch in 2022 was at Double-A Reading, going 2-1 with a 2.54 ERA in five games, racking up 37 strikeouts in 28.1 innings pitched. Overall in 2022, he pitched in 22 games across three levels going 6-2 with a 1.54 ERA, striking out 155 with 103.2 innings pitched.
Painter is the No. 2 player in the system behind Aiden Mailler, and the highest-ranked Phillies prospect headed to the AFL.
In addition to Painter, the Phillies are sending 10 players to the AFL.
