Phillies Avoid Arbitration with Jeremy Hellickson
The Phillies can check the last item off their arbitration eligible list as the team has avoided arbitration with pitcher Jeremy Hellickson, avoiding arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $7 million contract.
Hellickson, who was in the his final-year of being arbitration eligible, earned a $2.7 million raise despite a 4.62 ERA last season in Arizona. He receives a modest bump in salary, even though he's averaged just 20 starts over the last two years due to injury.
He is expected to immediately jump near the top of a very young and inexperienced Phillies' rotation.
The Phillies have agreed to terms with all of their arbitration-eligible players.
With Hellickson signed, here is what the Phillies rotation could look like in 2016:
1. Aaron Nola
2. Jeremy Hellickson
3. Charlie Morton
4. Jared Eickhoff
5. Matt Harrison
Others who will compete at Spring Training:
Brett Oberholtzer
Mark Appel
Vince Velasquez
Adam Morgan
David Buchanan
Jake Thompson
Zach Eflin
Pitchers and catchers is February 18th.
