Phillies 2010 first round pick Jesse Biddle has been designated for assignment today to make room for left handed pitcher Bobby LaFromboise, who they claimed off waivers from the Angels.

The Philadelphia native was drafted by the Phillies with the 27th overall pick in 2010 and had a 4.95 ERA through 24 minor league starts this year before being shut down with arm soreness. He underwent Tommy John surgery back on October 14.

LaFromboise appeared in 11 games with the Pirates this past season with a 1.13 ERA and posted a 2.98 ERA and 52 strikeouts in 54 1/3 innings in Triple-A.

He should compete for a bullpen spot along with lefties Elvis Araujo, Mario Hollands, Daniel Stumpf and non-roster invitee James Russell in Clearwater.

As for Biddle, he will sit out the 2016 campaign and hope to get back on track in 2017.
