Phillies fans chant for Millville, NJ, alum Buddy Kennedy
Millville's Buddy Kennedy walked to the plate with the Phillies tired 1-1- with the Tampa Bay Rays in the bottom of the ninth with a chance to win the game.
Kennedy was pinch-hitting for Cal Stevenson and as he stepped into the box, he was greeted by over 40,000 Phillies fans, who began to chant his name, "BUD-DY! BUD-DY! BUD-DY!"
"That was definitely different," Kennedy said with a huge smile on his face.
Kennedy acknowledged he was a Phillies fan growing up, and as a fan had chanted, but aftwr hearing his own name he told himself; "I just got to relax".
The 2017 Millville High School alum had a tremendous at-bat, working a full count, before walking to set up Kody Clemens game-winning hit.
"I'll always remember that for the rest of my life," Kennedy said.
Kennedy was traded to the Phillies in exchange for cash considerations from the Detroit Tigers back on June 7.
At Triple-A this seaaon, Kennedy is hitting .272 with 13 home runs and 46 RBI in 102 games between Lehigh and Toledo.
As a senior at Millville, Kennedy hit .493 with six home runs and was selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the fifth round of the 2017 Major League Baseball Draft.
