Phillies Make First Cuts, Send Out Kingery, Cozens, Hoskins, Others
With three weeks to go before the start of the Major League season, the Phillies made their first round of cuts in big league camp.
Outfielder Dylan Cozens and pitchers Drew Anderson, Elniery Garcia and Alberto Tirado are members of the 40-man roster. They have been optioned to the minor leagues and this year will represent their first option year. They can be recalled at will by the club, should they wish to put them on the Major League roster.
Non-roster invitees including first baseman Rhys Hoskins, second baseman Scott Kingery, catcher Chace Numata outfielder Andrew Pullin and pitcher Victor Arano. All players in this group have yet to reach the 40-man roster. So, the club will have to open a spot for them to add them to the Major League roster, though most of these players probably will not see the Major Leagues before September, if at all.
The moves leave 53 players in Major League camp. Some players already optioned may appear in a Grapefruit League game, even though not a member of Major League camp, particularly with several players still active in the World Baseball Classic.
