Phillies Make History in Game 1 Win over Arizona

It was a historic night at Citizens Bank Park, as the Phillies powered their way to a Game 1 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks in the National League Championship series.

History was made on the first pitch of the game when Kyle Schwarber took Bishop Eustace alum Zac Gallen deep to give the Phillies a 1-0 advantage.  With the long ball, Schwarber hit his fourth career leadoff homer in the postseason, breaking a tie with Derek Jeter and Jimmy Rollins for the most all-time.

Bryce Harper went yard two batters later, hitting the first pitch he saw, 420-feet into the Philadelphia night. In the second inning, Nick Castellanos went deep for the fifth time in the three games, joining Reggie Jackson in 1977 as the only players in MLB history with five home runs in a 3- game span in a postseason.

Between Harper and Castellanos, the duo now has combined for eight home runs over the last three games.  That would be the most by any pair of teammates in a 3-game span within a postseason all-time. The previous record before this year was seven homers by Lou Gehrig and Babe Ruth in 1928.

That's not all, the Phillies overall have hit 12 homers in their last three games, the most in MLB postseason history in a 3-game span.
