Phillies Make It Official, Name Charlie Manuel Senior Advisor

The Phillies have named former manager Charlie Manuel as a senior advisor to the general manager, Senior Vice President & General Manager Ruben Amaro Jr. announced today.

In his new role with the organization, Manuel, 70, will work with minor league hitters, scout at the major and minor levels and serve as a consultant for the baseball operations staff.

“Charlie obviously brings a wealth of knowledge and is someone who had an historic impact on not just our organization, but on all Phillies fans,” said Amaro.  “We couldn’t be happier to have him back in the fold with us and sharing his expertise and insight throughout the organization.”

Manuel spent nine seasons (2005-13) at the helm of the Phillies and went 780-636 (.551), managing the club to more wins than any other manager in franchise history.  From 2007-11, the club won five consecutive National League East Division titles, two NL pennants and a World Series championship.  Last August, he became the 59th manager in major league history to notch 1,000 wins.  Prior to being named manager for the 2005 season, Manuel spent two years (2003-04) working for the Phillies as a special assistant to then-GM Ed Wade.
