It looks like Matt Vierling or Adam Haseley will start for the Phillies on Opening Day in 2022.

Center fielder Odubel Herrera will be out four-to-six weeks with a strained right oblique per Phillies manager Joe Girardi.

The Phillies brought the 30-year-old back with a one-year $1.5 million contract after he was non-tendered by the Phillies in the offseason. The team declined to pick up his $11.5 million team option, and he refused a minor-league assignment after being removed from the Phillies' 40-man roster.

He hit 260 with 13 home runs and six stolen bases in 2021.

The likely plan was that he would platoon with Vierling in center field, but now Vierling has an opportunity to show he can play everyday with Herrera likely to miss the start of the regular season.
