As of 2:16 p.m. on Trade Deadline day, the Phillies have made just one move: acquiring infielder Edmundo Sosa.  But there is still smoke in the air with the Phillies reportedly shopping for a starting pitcher and a center fielder.  One move of note was made by the Phillies Tuesday afternoon, which could be a precursor to another move.

Zach Eflin

Eflin's knee was still bothering him as of last report, and there was no clear end to his return in sight.

As Gelb notes, this does mean that Eflin probably will not pitch most of August.  However, the move does give the Phillies an extra spot on their 40-man roster.

The Phillies used that 40-man roster spot to claim pitcher Andrew Vasquez from the Toronto Blue Jays.  Vasquez is a left-handed reliever who has appeared in nine games for the Blue Jays in 2022.  He's appeared in 21 major league games over four seasons from 2018-2022, minus 2020 when he did not pitch.

The Phillies reportedly are actively searching for a replacement for Eflin.
