Phillies Place J.T. Realmuto on 10-Day Injured List with Knee Pain
The Phillies are hopeful to get shortstop Trea Turner back soon, but as soon as he comes back, it looks like they will be without catcher J.T. Realmuto.
Realmuto has been placed on the 10-day IL with right knee pain, and will undergo right knee meniscectomy surgery tomorrow in Philadelphia. Phillies President Dave Dombrowski told the media in Boston before tonight's game they expect Realmuto to miss “about a month."
Dombrowski added that this doesn't change the teams position at the trade deadline and that Realmuto should be able to catch right away when he comes back.
He is having a solid season as the teams primary catcher, hitting .261 with seven home runs and 20 RBI on the season, hitting mainly out of the No. 2 spot behind Kyle Schwarber.
To take his place on the roster Rafael Marchán was recalled from triple-A Lehigh Valley, who is hitting .233 with two homers and eight RBI in 13 games between Class A Clearwater and Lehigh Valley this season.
In Realmuto's first game out, the Phillies have Nick Castellanos to the No. 2 spot in the lineup and Garrett Stubbs gets the start behind the plate and is hitting in the No. 8 hole.
As for Turner, Phillies manager Rob Thomson indicated the he may not require a minor league rehab assignment. There is a possibility that Turner could be ready to play this weekend in Baltimore.
