Phillies planning to start Nabil Crismatt in spring training opener
The Philadelphia Phillies plan to start Non-Roster Invitee Nabil Crismatt on the mound in Saturday's Grapefruit League opener against the Detroit Tigers, according to the team.
He is scheduled to throw two innings in the game.
Crismatt signed a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training in December after spending time with the Cardinals, Dodgers, Rangers, and Padres in five big league seasons.

The right-hander appeared in five big league games in 2024 with the Dodgers, going 1-1 with a 2.57 ERA in seven innings pitched. Overall, Crismatt has appeared in 114 major league games going 9-6 with a 3.71 ERA in 177 innings.
He pitched for Gigantes del Cibao in the Dominican Winter League this year, tossing 54.1 innings in 11 starts. He had a solid 2.65 ERA and 1.03 WHIP, striking out 49 batters.
Crismatt also pitched for Columbia in the 2023 World Baseball Classic, pitching in four innings, with three strikeouts, a 2.25 ERA, and 0.75 WHIP in one start.
The 30-year-old is a candidate to be the final member of the Phillies bullpen with guys like Taijuan Walker, Michael Mercado, Max Lazar, Koyo Aoyagi, and some other longshot arms.
Alan Rangel, who signed a minor league deal back in mid-July, is also slated to pitch in the game on Saturday against Detroit. Now 26, Rangel was a top pitching prospect in the Braves organization and has also pitched in the Angels organization.
