The Phillies had a handful of free agents from their Major League roster this offseason.  One of them, Andres Blanco, has been invaluable to the club, giving the Phillies playing time at third base, shortstop, second base, first base, and even left field.

CSN Philly's Jim Salisbury reports that the Phillies and Blanco have agreed to a one-year, $3 million contract.

The Phillies have yet to announce the the move.  Before the Phillies do, they will have to make room on the 40-man roster.  Some candidates to be removed include pitchers Phil Klein, Luis Garcia, and Severino Gonzalez.

Blanco is very popular in the clubhouse, particularly among Latin players.  Infielders Freddy Galvis, Cesar Hernandez, and Maikel Franco are regularly seen with Blanco.   The Phillies have considered Blanco a positive veteran influence for the whole club.
