Phillies Re-Sign Utility Man Gosselin
The Phillies did make an addition before leaving the meetings. According to sources, the club re-signed utility man Phil Gosselin to a minor-league deal with an invite to big-league spring training camp.
While there is no guarantee of a roster spot, the Phillies often have to dip to their minor league depth for help.
Gosselin signed in the same manner last season and ended up making 44 appearances in the major leagues for the Phillies. Gosselin was assigned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley after Spring Training and was summoned first in April after a couple injuries to the Phillies infield. After being designated for assignment June 14, Gosselin cleared waivers and re-joined the IronPigs.
Gosselin returned to Philadelphia as a September call-up when rosters expanded September 1.
The Phillies used Gosselin at third base, shortstop and left field in 2019. At Triple-A Lehigh Valley, Gosselin played first base, second base, shortstop and third base. Combining his pinch-hitting appearances with his starts, Gosselin batted .262.
