The Philadelphia Phillies optioned veteran catcher Garrett Stubbs to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Thursday.

Opening Day is on March 27, a week away, and the back up catcher spot was one of the big battles this Spring Training between Stubbs and Rafael Marchán.

Marchán is out of options, while Stubbs had an option left and will start the season at Triple-A.

Stubbs has been a key reserve during the Phillies last three playoff runs.  Last season he slashed .207/.296/.262 with one home run and 11 RBI in 54 games as the main backup to J.T. Realmuto.

Stubbs has been none as a key clubhouse member, with music, and as been called the 'chief vibes officer.'

Marchán, 26, played 20 games with the team in 2024, hitting .294 with three home runs and six RBI.
