Phillies Ink Former Postseason Hero Adolis García to One-Year Deal
The Philadelphia Phillies are adding a new bat to the mix as they’ve signed outfielder Adolis García, a former World Series champion, who has made two All-Star teams and a Gold Glove Award.
He is best known for his 2022 play run with the Rangers, helping Texas capture their lone World Series and setting a postseason record with 22 RBI en route to the ALCS MVP.
A Defensive Upgrade and a Power Question Mark
While Garcia has struggled at the plate, he gives the Phillies a massive defensive upgrade over Nick Castellanos in right field.
What This Means for Nick Castellanos and the Outfield
With Garcia in the mix, the Phillies will likely move on from Castellanos and have a new look in their outfield with Brandon Marsh and Otto Kemp as a potential platoon in left field and Justin Crawford as a strong possibility to be on the team's Opening Day roster.
The team could also try to play Crawford in left field and bring in a new center fielder, or look to bring back Harrison Bader to play center field.
García's Potential Lineup Fit: Where Will He Hit?
It will be interesting to see where the Phillies hit Garcia in the lineup. He has plenty of power, but hit just 19 homers last season. However, he hit 39 in 2023, 27 in 202,2, and 31 in 2021, so there is plenty of potential there.
Last year in Texas, he hit fourth in 76 games, which was the most in any spot in the Rangers' batting lineup.
