Phillies Acquire Steward Berroa From Brewers to Boost Outfield Depth
The Philadelphia Phillies made a move to try to address their lack of outfield depth on Wednesday afternoon, adding outfielder Steward Berroa in a trade with the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for cash considerations.

Analyzing Steward Berroa’s Defensive Versatility
The intriguing part about Berroa is his ability to play all three outfield positions, in 30 career major league games with the Brewers and Blue Jays from 2024-25, appearing in right field (13 G), left field (6 G), and center field (4 G).
Speed and Base-Stealing: Berroa’s Minor League Track Record
The 26-year-old .236/.348/.314 with 34 steals in the minors for the Blue Jays, Dodgers, and Brewers last year.
In 601 career minor league games, the switch-hitter has slashed .250/.355/.378 with 90 doubles, 27 triples, 36 home runs, 228 RBI, 313 walks, 388 runs scored, and 271 stolen bases.
Why the Phillies Needed Outfield Reinforcements
Right now, the Phillies have Otto Kemp platooning in left field with Brandon Marsh and Justin Crawford in center field. They could use another outfielder for depth, at least a better defensive outfielder. Kemp, who doesn't have much experience playing the outfield, has struggled early. Marsh is not a great center fielder, and is really the only option if Crawford needs a day off.
While I wouldn't expect Berroa to be up with the Phillies right away, but he could be an option if the team's outfield defense continues to be an issue.
