A dolphin's life was saved after it had beached itself onto a strip of sand in Sea Isle City.

If you take a moment to think, you've probably heard of beached whales a lot more often than you've heard of a dolphin being stranded on shore. While it's more common for whales to end up on the shoreline, dolphins also sometimes beach themselves for the same reasons whales do. According to livescience.com, dolphins often will distance themselves from their pods if they're sick or even just injured.

The local Coast Guard shared pictures of the dolphin to their Facebook page that detailed how some members, along with help received from the Marine Mammal Stranding Center, were able to carry out the rescue.

Luckily, all involved were able to transport the dolphin back to its ocean home. Check out the awesome pics:
