This Popular New Jersey Shore Town Just Made Pickleball Players Very Happy
Pickleball is one of the fastest-growing social activities and recreational sports in the United States. Over the last five years, numerous indoor Pickleball clubs have opened and many New Jersey towns are building new courts to keep up with public interest.
From Tunersville and Moorestown to Manahawkin and Long Beach Island, new Pickleball clubs are opening all around New Jersey. Meanwhile, South Jersey communities such as Avalon, and Lower Township have invested resources into creating new areas for pickleball players to use year-round.
Another New Jersey Shore Town is creating more options for Pickleball Players
Located off Garden State Parkway Exit 17, Sea Isle City is one of the first South Jersey Communities to embrace the Pickleball phenomenon. The popular Coastal Community built two areas for pickleball players in the downtown area of Sea Isle City near JFK Boulevard that are busy during the summer months.
But in the offseason, when it is too cold for pickleball players outside, there have not been many options for them in South Jersey in recent years. Now Sea Isle City has a new opportunity.
At the most recent City Council meeting, Sea Isle City announced they will not charge any fees for pickleball players to use the new, soon-to-open Community Center. There were plans to charge pickleball players a fee to use the indoor pickleball courts, but city officials heeded the complaints of residents.
Membership will be free for Sea Isle City residents and property-owners who plan to make "general use" of the new Community Center. But people who are not property owners or who are not year-round residents will have to pay one of the following fees for membership access to the Community Center:
-$5 per day
-$40 per month
-$120 per year
Other costs that are expected to be a part of using the facilities at the new Community Center will include $55 per hour per group during non-peak times, and $75 per hour per group during peak times for the Golf Simulator. Also, Fitness Classes will be $5 per class, or $40 per month.
The new Community Center is located on the site of what was the Sea Isle City Public School in between 45th and 46th Streets. The property extends to both Park Road and Central Avenue, will have free parking on the outdoor lot and in the parking garage underneath the new building.
No official word yet when the new Sea Isle City Community Center will have the Grand Opening, but the proposed hours of operation:
Monday-Thursday: 7am to 8pm
Friday: 7am to 9pm
Saturday: 7am to 5pm
Sunday: 7am to 3pm
The Sea Isle City Public School building is not the only famous building or popular business that is no longer on the island. How many of these old spots do you remember from decades past?
