Ranger Suárez Returns to Phillies Camp With Forearm Issue
The news for the Phillies seems to be getting more and more concerning. In the wake of learning that Andrew Painter has a strained UCL, the Phillies found themselves with another injury to a starting pitcher. This time it is lefty Ranger Suárez.
Suárez was to pitch for Venezuela in the World Baseball Classic.
A setback of "a few days" does not sound too serious at this moment. However, the Phillies are flirting with some real concern. Already down Painter, if Bailey Falter assumes the fifth starter spot the Phillies are short on depth thereafter. They would need to turn to lefties Michael Plassmeyer or Cristopher Sanchez next.
Nick Nelson is also currently said to be a starting pitcher candidate, though he pitched in relief on Thursday, seeming to indicate he is not being stretched out for a relief role.
