Report: Phillies set to call Seth Johnson up to pitch Sunday in Miami
The Philadelphia Phillies revolving door at the No. 5 spot in the rotation is taking them to Lehigh Valley.
According to ESPN Baseball insider Kiley McDaniel, team is planning to call up right-hander Seth Johnson, who was acquired in a trade with Baltimore for Gregory Soto.
While at Double-A. with Baltimore, the 25-year-old right-hander had a 2.63 ERA in 65 innings over 18 starts.
The plan per McDaniel is to have Johnson start their game on Sunday in Miami.
Johnson last pitched on Friday night for the Iron Pigs and has a 2-0 record with an sparkling 0.56 ERA in three starts since coming over from the Baltimore organization. Overall with three different teams Johnson is 2-7 with a 2.33 ERA 1.195 WHIP in 23 games and has 83 strikeouts in 88.2 innings pitched.
He replaces Tyler Phillips who was demoted after a rough outing on Tuesday where he allowed six runs on eight hits in 2/3 innings in Toronto. The Phillies have been looking for someone to step in to the No. 5 spot in the rotation after moving Taijuan Walker to the bullpen.
Johnson was recently named the International League pitcher of the week.
