It looks as if Sam Hinkie has his man.

According to a report, the Sixers are "locked in" with taking Ohio State freshman guard D'Angelo Russell with their third overall selection.

This assertion was also confirmed by Nate Timmons on Twitter.

Russell, by some, is widely considered to be the best player in the draft. He certainly is the best guard in the draft behind big men Karl-Anthony Towns and Jahlil Okafor.

Russell is the type of player that can come in right away and start for the Sixers who are in desperate need of a ball handling guard that can score on the offensive side of the ball. His defense could use some development, but the Sixers already have an impactful defensive player in Nerlens Noel.

The Lakers, nonetheless, still hold the keys to it all with their second overall selection. If they decide to pass on Okafor and select Russell, that could send the Sixers scrambling with various trade offers expected to come through.

We'll find out soon enough.
