Rollins, Wade Named to Phillies Wall of Fame
We knew it was just a matter of time. The Philadelphia Phillies announced on Thursday afternoon their latest additions to the beloved Wall of Fame at Citizens Bank Park. The announcement was highlighted by former National League MVP, Rawlings Gold Glove winner, Silver Slugger, All-Star, and World Champion, Jimmy Rollins.
If you are a Philadelphia Phillies fan you must know Rollins, who is the storied franchise's all-time hits leader with 2306.
Rollins won Gold Glove awards four times with the Phillies, was an All-Star three times.
But more importantly, Rollins was regarded as the team leader that led the Phillies team into becoming a perennial playoff contender. Rollins won the National League MVP award in 2007 as the Phillies made it to the playoffs for the first time since 2007 with a National League East title.
Ed Wade, who served as Phillies general manager from 1998-2005, oversaw the buildout of much of that Phillies core after taking on the general manager role. Wade had been an assistant general manager since 1989.
After the Phillies won the World Series in 2008, then-general manager Pat Gillick thanked Wade for his work on the club that was in place when he took over.
After leaving the Phillies, Wade became general manager of the Houston Astros for four seasons. After the Houston Astros were sold and new leadership took over in 2011, Wade rejoined the Phillies until 2018 as a scout and special assistant to the general manager.
Of the 2008 World Champion mix, the only player currently on the Wall of Fame is Pat Burrell. Gillick and manager Charlie Manuel are also on the Wall of Fame.
After several years of inducting Phillies from other eras, it appears the Phillies have many clear Wall of Fame candidates to induct in future years, starting with Chase Utley and Ryan Howard, with the likes of Cole Hamels, Carlos Ruiz and several others coming.
Phillies Alumni Weekend in 2025 is scheduled for the first weekend of August, with the Wallf of Fame inducting taking place on August 1 ahead of the 6:45 p.m. game against the Detroit Tigers.
