Sánchez Or Nola For Game 2? Phillies And Mets Pitching Decisions
Philadelphia Phillies manager Rob Thomson knows who he is going to pitch for Game 1 of the National League Division Series, Zack Wheeler, but after that, it seems to be up in the air.
The Phillies have already announced Wheeler will get the ball, but the Mets have yet to make their pitching known, but according to MLB.com Mets beat reporter Anthony DiComo they are leaning toward Tyler Megill.
The right-hander has been tough on the Phillies during his career, going 3-1 with a 2.51 ERA and 34 strikeouts in 32.1 innings pitched in six career appearances against Philadelphia. Phillies hitters are hitting just .183 gainst Megill.
The Mets have some pitching questions after playing a doubleheader on Monday, then a three-game playoff series Tuesday-Thursday. They used three different starters and plenty of bullpen arms to make it to Saturday's NLDS.
Thomson did not specify the rest of the rotation but did mention that lefty Cristopher Sánchez is a candidate to pitch in Game 2, with Aaron Nola pitching Game 3 in New York.
Sánchez has been much better at Citizens Bank Park (7-3, 2.21) this season and has struggled on the road (5-6, 5.02). Nola splits are about the same both home and away, going both 7-4 home and away. His home ERA was 3.29 and on the road, it was 3.87.
Nola went 1-1 with a 4.05 ERA this season and Sánchez made three starts against the Mets, going 1-0 with a 3.06 ERA. At Citi Field, Sánchez pitched in two games, going 1-0 with a 4.22 ERA this season.
You can listen to the Phillies and Mets on Saturday and Sunday on 97.3 ESPN with the first pitch on both days scheduled for 4:08 p.m.
