Anthony DiOrio spearheaded Shawnee to a victory in its opener by running away from Kingsway defenders. The senior standout then ran away with our first 97.3 ESPN FM High School Athlete of the Week vote for the 2013-'14 school year.

DiOrio collected nearly 94 percent of the total vote in the opening week of fall sports action. He rushed for 173 yards on 20 carries Thursday evening in a 25-19 victory over Kingsway.

Southern Regional senior Logan Sheehan settled for second place with four percent of the vote. He passed for 150 yards and three touchdowns in his debut as the Rams' starting quarterback, leading the team to a 26-6 win over Freehold Township.

Donald Baigle (Millville soccer), Shannon Murphy (Atlantic Christian soccer) and Kailey Stangle (Mainland field hockey) rounded out the list of candidates.

Be sure to look for a new list of Athlete of the Week candidates every Thursday. Vote early and often  through Saturday mornings. Tyler Donohue will announce the winner Saturdays at 11 a.m. on The South Jersey Sports Report (9-noon).
