Phillies Manager Pete Mackanin announced Monday that Jeanmar Gomez role as Closer has been subplanted by veteran Reliever Joaquin Beniot.  Benoit, who turns 40 Years Old in July, has not been a full-time Closer since 2013 when he was with the Detroit Tigers and notched 24 Saves.  Meanwhile Hector Neris remains in the Setup Man role; last season Neris had a 2.58 ERA and tallied 102 Strikeouts in 80.1 Innings Pitched.

CSN Philly Pre and Post Game Phillies Analyst Ricky Bottalico joins The Sports Bash and explained why he agrees with Mackanin keeping Neris in the Eight Inning Role:

"I like what he's done in that Setup role, he has done a little Closing last year, it wasn't great....I think with Hector he is so comfortable in that Eight Inning role that I may just keep him there.  And I know it's one of those things that (people say) 'Well he's shown enough late in games that he can close'; Yeah, but you know the Eight Inning is just as important as the Ninth and if a guy is comfortable there you just keep him there."
