Sports Talk with Brodes: Flyers Win 3rd Straight after Taking Down the Winnipeg Jets
The Philadelphia Flyers win their third straight game after beating the Winnipeg Jets by a score of 4-2. They now have 77 points on the season and this win has a huge impact because the Pittsburgh Penguins and Washington Capitals both lost today.
Scott Laughton had a remarkable game scoring two goals in the first period! Sean Couturier ripped one past Connor Hellebuyck in the second period for a three-goal lead.
This is when the Jets made their run for the game. With around two minutes remaining in the second, Josh Morrissey was left wide open in the slot area to crank a goal by Carter Hart. A few minutes into the third period, on the power play, Patrik Laine found twine to make it a one-goal hockey game.
Tyler Pitlick halfway through the third tipped the puck past Hellebuyck for insurance and the Flyers were able to hold on. Laughton had an opportunity with an empty night to tuck in his third of the night for a hat trick, but failed to score.
Alain Vigneault was excited about the way his team played after the Jets came back to make it close. He claimed that was the best part of the night for his team.
The Flyers continue to get scoring from their bottom six forwards and that is such a big reason for their success. I am concerned about their power play though as it has a tough time scoring goals.
