Phillies reliever Jose Alvarez has been one of the most, if not the most reliable pitcher in the Phillies bullpen in 2020.  Unfortunately for the Phillies, Alvarez was hit by a 105-mile-per-hour shot off the bat of Lourdes Gurriel, Jr.  While the end result was not a broken bone, it was a whole different kind of pain, and one enough to land Alvarez on the injured list.

The Phillies announced that Alvarez is headed to the 10-day injured list with what they're calling a "testicular contusion".   Yes, that's the official diagnosis.  With that comes the potential for some great discomfort in the coming days, so Alvarez will have some time to recover.

To replace Alvarez on the roster, the Phillies held onto Jojo Romero, who joined the Phillies as the extra man on Thursday for the doubleheader.  The Phillies have been actively seeking bullpen help, having acquired righthander David Hale in a trade with the New York Yankees and are reportedly pursuing two relievers in a trade with the Boston Red Sox.

That's even painful to watch.
