Congratulations, to Tom Williams for 50 years of broadcasting, writing and civic contributions. Last Saturday, he was honored at a luncheon and rightly so. His contributions to the area sports landscape has been, and continues to be, the standard that all of us in the industry are trying to achieve. He has been a mentor, friend and most of all, a class act. He’s always been willing to help in any way possible when it comes to aiding fellow media members, but most of all, the students and athletes whose lives he has touched. He will also be honored with induction into the South Jersey Basketball Hall of Fame at the Al Carino dinner on February 12th. Congratulations Tom and may you continue on for another 50 years!

Flying under the radar– Did anyone think that the Egg Harbor Township girls would be as competitive as they are this season? With only two seniors and a 9-5 record, including 5-1 at home, they are surprising a lot of teams this season and could be spoilers down the stretch if other squads overlook them. Junior guard Selena Santiago is the lynchpin for the team and leads in most categories.

Milestones
Kudos go out to T. John Casiello of Wildwood Catholic who reached the 1,000 point milestone last week. The point guard has been the driving force behind the Crusaders during his four years as a starter. This season, they have a legitimate shot to go far in the CAL playoffs and State playoffs and are on an 11 game winning streak, very quietly. Senior Matt Bosch and junior Julia Duggan of Ocean City are next up on the point list with 960 and 951 points respectively.

Coming up

Friday on 1450 ESPN, its a big National Conference game between Middle Twp and St. Augustine.  The Prep will be involved in the new CAL playoffs, but the Panthers, who have been a different team on the road still need some wins to get in. Tip-off is set for 7pm on 1450 ESPN.
