Two former Phillies’ managers among names to replace David Bell with Reds
Former Phillies third baseman David Bell has been fired by the Cincinnati Reds after a disappointing season with five games left. He went 409.456 in six seasons as the manager of the Reds.
Bell signed a four-year $17 million deal with the Phillies back in 20023 and played in Philadelphia for four seasons, hitting .258 with 38 home runs and 209 RBI.
So who will replace him? It could be a former Phillies manager.
According to betting odds at BetOnline.ag, two former Phillies managers are among the favorites to replace Bell.
Two names that appear on the betting odds list behind the favorite Skip Schumaker include Terry Francona and Gabe Kapler.
Francona was the Phillies skipper from 1997-2000 going 285-363 during his four seasons. It was his first chance at managing a Major League team, and he went on to manage in Boston and Cleveland, winning two World Series with the Red Sox.
He has the third shortest odds to get the job at 7/1.
At 9/1 it's former Phillies manager Gabe Kapler, who was fired after two seasons where he went 161-163. He later went to San Francisco and went 295-248, winning 107 games and National League Manager of the Year in 2021.
