Where Does the Phillie Phanatic Rank Among MLB Mascots?
Phillies fans young and old love the Phillie Phanatic.
Since 1978, Phillies fans from eight to 80 years of age, have been dancing and hanging out with the longtime team mascot at first Veterans Stadium and now Citizens Bank Park. The large, furry, green creature from the Galápagos Islands even makes the trip to Clearwater for Phillies Spring Training and makes other appearances all over the Delaware Valley.
However, not everyone seems to love the Phanatic.
While the Phillies mascot is extremely popular among Phillies' fans, he isn't well-liked by other teams' fans.
Play USA recently surveyed 2,000 MLB fans from across the country to ask them to rate every official MLB mascot from No. 1 to 5. The results were mixed for the Phillies Phanatic.
In the end, the Phanatic finished as the 12th-most popular mascot in all of baseball.
However, like most things in the city of Philadelphia when it comes to sports, the Phanatic is a polarizing figure.
He is the most-liked mascot among fans who rated their mascot the best, but the Phanatic has the most obnoxious behavior in the league according to baseball fans of other teams.
Sounds like a case of if he is your friend you love him, but if you don't know him he rubs you the wrong way.
The best mascot in baseball? Clark the Cub from the Chicago Cubs. The worst? Slider from the Cleveland Indians.
