Will Shipley Added to Injuries: Eagles Rushing Woes Deepen Ahead of Week 6
Another Philadelphia Eagles running back is expected to miss more playing time.
The team is already without starter Saquon Barkley and top reserve Tank Bigsby, and now Will Shipley is on that list.
Will Shipley Injured in London Loss to Jaguars
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Shipley suffered a “partial tear of his plantar fascia” in the second quarter of the Eagles' Week 5 loss to the Jaguars in London.
Eagles' Rushing Attack Reaches Historical Lows
Shipley had six touches (five carries for six yards) for 13 yards but scored a touchdown.
Dameon Pierce entered the game and had 11 carries for just 14 yards in the game; overall, Philadelphia had just 18 carries for 22 yards, their fewest rushing yards in a game since 2015 Week 2 vs. the Cowboys (7). Carson Steele was active, but did not have a carry in the game.
Next Men Up: Dameon Pierce and Carson Steele
The team is hoping that Barkley can return for the team's Week 6 game against Carolina; if not, it appeared that Pierce and Steele would be in line for a bulk of the touches this week.
Preseason Highlights & Potential Touches Against Carolina
Pierce played in one preseason game, recording four carries for 44 yards.
Steele played in all three of the team's preseason games, gaining 193 total yards, with 20 carries for 57 rushing yards (2.8 average) and 14 catches for 136 yards with 2 receiving touchdowns.
Outlook for Saquon Barkley's Week 6 Return
We should have a better feel for Barkley's potential return later this week; the Eagles' first injury report comes out on Wednesday. Barkley was considered to be “week-to-week” and has missed the Eagles' past two games, leaving the team’s Week 4 loss to the Rams in the second quarter.
The Eagles will host the Carolina Panthers this week at 1 p.m.; listen on 97.3 ESPN, South Jersey home for Eagles football.
