A Flyers-Canadiens Series to Remember

The Philadelphia Flyers are taking on the Montreal Canadians in the conference Quarter Finals of the 2020 Stanley Cup playoffs. The Flyers won Game One 2-1 in Toronto on Wednesday night.  However, when the Flyers meet the 24-time Stanley Cup Championship franchise, it has a little bit more meaning than just the wins or losses. There is a rich history between these two teams that brings back some lasting memories of what is historically an intense rivalry. The Flyers have met the Canadians six times in the Stanley Cup Playoffs and each team has won a series three times a piece. The overall record in the playoffs are 16-16, but the 1989 series between the Flyers and Canadians stands out!  In Game One of the 1989 series, Brian Propp was knocked unconscious by a vicious elbow hit to the head from Canadians Defenseman Chris Chelios.  At the end of Game six where the Flyers would eventually lose the series to Montreal, Flyers Goaltender Ron Hextall left his goal crease and charged at Chelios to avenge the hit on Propp. 

As we continue our “ Push for Propp” into the Hockey Hall of Fame segment, we will hear from former Flyers Head Coach Mike Keenan about what type of player Brian was and his thoughts on how much Brian Propp meant to the success of his teams. We will also reflect on the infamous hit during that series and if there is still any bad blood between the Philadelphia and Montreal franchises.  Plus, Scott McKay and I will recap Games One and Two of the Flyers versus Canadians Series along with talking about the Sixers and Phillies!
