The first Saturday in May is historically reserved for the Running of the Roses: The 148th Kentucky Derby is set for this Saturday with a post time scheduled for 6:57pm.  Each year, all eyes will be fixed on “the most exciting two minutes in sports."  I’ve been to the Kentucky Derby and it is a bucket list event for any sports fan!  There are twenty horses, all three-year-olds, scheduled to run and these thoroughbreds are fast.  There is no clear-cut favorite this year and there is rain in the forecast so make sure you tune into The Locker Room on Saturday for our Kentucky Derby preview with Jeffrey Nash from fastlanehandicapper.com for the latest odds.

The Sixers play Game Three on Friday Night and even though Joel Embiid has cleared the NBA's Concussion Protocol, there's no guarantee what version of him would be available to play versus the Miami Heat in front of the Wells Fargo Center crowd.  Without Embiid the Sixers have been dismal, especially from the 3-point line shooting 14-64 combined the first two games of this series.  Who will be OUR "Herro"??  The Sixers could really use a guy like Tyler Herro right now.  Without Embiid, the only way the Sixers have a chance the last two games is shooting from the three point line and their poor shooting plus sloppy play doomed them in Miami this week.

And then there is those Phillies....I couldn't sleep last night!!!  Aaron Nola was cruising and went seven innings only surrendering one run.  Manager Joe Girardi went to his Bullpen and in the ninth inning, the wheels came off!  James Norwood gave up four runs and forced Girardi to call in his Closer, Corey Knebel, who had just pitched less than 24 hours earlier in the team's extra innings loss to the Rangers.  Knebel proceeded to surrender three more runs in the ninth inning and just HANDED THE LEAD over to the New York Mets!!!!

This weekend in The Locker Room with Billy Schweim we have A LOT TO TALK ABOUT!!!

On Saturday’s show Mike Carlin joins me in the studio. We will recap the Sixers and Heat game three results. The Sports Book Consigliere Dave Sharapan will check in as he recovers from last week's 2022 NFL draft invasion of Las Vegas.  Where will the "Bag Guys" be putting the Smart Money this weekend?  Then in Hour Two we will visit with horse racing expert Jeffrey Nash from fastlanehandicapper.com. Jeff will give us a run down of the race participants and handicap the 148th Kentucky Derby. Oh, and yeah, we will commiserate about the Phillies.

On Sunday’s show, Pete Thompson joins me in the studio as we recap the weekend in sports and look ahead to Sixers-Heat Game Four on Sunday Night!  We will talk about Phillies Baseball with our “On the Mound with Tommy Greene” segment which is Brought to you each week by Aaron Bada’s Golf and Sports Performance Center.  Each week, Tommy Greene gives his thoughts on the Phillies and gets us ready for Sunday’s game.  Plus, I went to the Philadelphia Sports Writers dinner and interviewed some of Philly’s greatest sports figures. You don’t want to miss what they had to say!

All that and more you get each weekend in The Locker Room with Billy Schweim every Saturday and Sunday from 10am to Noon on 97.3 ESPN South Jersey!
